ORIGINAL STYLE OF KARATE:In the begning, Karate-Do was simply called "Te"means Hand in Japanese.When in the late 1800's "Te" was incorporated in Okinawa Junior High School physical training,it was given the name, "KARATE"[Empty-Hand] to distinguish it from "To-te"means Chinese Hand. The two Original Styles of Karate,developed in Okinawa were called "Shuri-te" and "Naha-te"the masters of these two styles are Master Itos of Shuri-te and Master Higonna of Naha-te.
GOJU RYU: means Hard/Soft 'Block' softly 'Hit' hard.Founder Master Chojun Miyage. WADO-RYU: means be translated as the 'Way of Harmony'. Hironori Otsuka elected to follow his own path after many years of training, which led to his founding Wado-Ryu Karate. SHITO-RYU: Two Masters Kenwa Mabuni was the student of Kanryo Higaonna and Itos Yasutsun both of Okinawa. 'Itos'of Itos can be pronounced as "SHI"while the 'higa' of Higanna is also recognized as "TO" Mabuni combined the two to pay respect to these Karate Legends. Shito replaced the original name he gave his style "Hanko" which does not mean half-heart. KYOKUSHIN-KAI: means the spirit seeking the utlimate truth. Seiodo - means -- School(Way of sincerity,)Koeikan - means Hall-(Virtuous prosperity Hall,)Rembukan - means --(Martials training Hall) Hall. Dojo - means--(Training Hall,) Hall.Gi - means --Uniform. SHOTOKAN: Comes from "Shoto" the pen name of Gichin Funakoshi a calligrapher as well as a master Karatka. "Kan"is a Hall or meeting piace so technically, Shotokan does not refer to a specific style other then that taught at Funakoshi's dojo.Funakoshi Karate Do,the Nikon Karate- Do Kyokai(Japan Karate Association) or JKA makes use of kyokai, "Kai"commonly means a group, but "Kyo"means co-operation.People working together for a similar goal.It indicates the particular purpose of the JKA, as aproper Japanese Budo(Martial Way)and to see it spread through out the world.ISSHIN-RYU,SHORIN-RYU, a)seidokan, b)RYU-KYU-KEMPO,c)OKINAWA KEMPO KARATE,d)OKINAWA KEMPO SHUDOKAN,e)SHORIN-RYU KUBAYASHI,f)SHORIN-RYU MATSUBAYASHI,g)SHORIN-RYU SHOBAYASHI,h)UECHI RYU.
